History of the ‘/’

I find it incredible to note that the entire concept of ‘slash fiction’ derived entirely from kirk/spock. Of course slash fiction has been referred to as a ‘genre’ in which two fictional characters interact erotically in some form of fan based art (Jones, 2002). But more incredibly, the title itself ‘slash’ came almost entirely from the pairing of spock and kirk. When fans would refer to this pairing back in the late 60′s, they would emphasize “Kirk, slash Spock.” or “K slash S.”  And so the abbreviation for these type of ‘fan made’ (typically male/male) pairings, quickly became simply slash. Now a days slash is an entire genre that spans multiple fandoms from Star Trek, X-Files, even He-Man. And to me… I find that FASCINATING.. :)
